CareFlex FAQs

General FAQs

What level of pressure relief do your chairs provide?

Our WaterCell Technology provides a reliable and dynamic pressure-relieving solution for individuals at medium to high risk of pressure injury. It enables the user to achieve a stable and functional posture without compromising pressure management and comfort. https://www.careflex.co.uk/info-centre/clinical-evaluations/1998-medical-devices-agency/

We cannot give our seating a Waterlow score. The Waterlow scale measures an individual’s risk of developing a pressure sore. The score comprises various contributing factors, many of which would not be addressed by seating alone—for example, nutrition, age, and body mass index.

There should always be a holistic approach to posture and pressure care. With its functions and accessories, the chair should be utilised to distribute body weight more evenly, helping to redistribute the pressure.

The user’s care plan is key when it comes to reducing pressure risk, as this should cover the initial set-up and positioning, transfers into the chair, and appropriate continued use.

What level of pressure care relief do the back cushions on your chairs offer?

Quantifying how much pressure relief an individual chair component provides is not possible as there are too many variables.

For example, the use of Tilt-in-Space or Back Angle Recline will affect how pressure redistribution is being achieved.

The individual components need to be viewed as a complete system.

If there is a clinical need, replacing our WaterCell technology seat cushion and using a third-party cushion is possible. If this is the preferred clinical option, and depending on the size of the third-party cushion, it may be necessary to use a docking cushion (Tailored Solutions). Please get in touch with the team on 0800 018 6440 and select option 1 or email sales@careflex.co.uk to discuss.

I have a problem with my chair, can someone come out to fix this?

Yes, it is possible to arrange a visit for your chair to be repaired. If the chair was purchased from one of our Trade Partners, we would recommend contacting them initially for assistance with this.

If the chair was purchased directly from us, one of our Engineers will conduct a service call to repair your chair. In some instances, the engineer may need to visit a second time if the required parts need to be ordered from the factory, or your chair may need to be returned to the factory for repair.

Don’t hesitate to contact the team on 0800 018 6440 and select option 1 or email sales@careflex.co.uk to discuss how your chair can be repaired as soon as possible.

Can I use any charger to charge my motorised chair?

We would only recommend using a charger supplied by CareFlex to ensure that the charger is compatible with the control box and actuators on our chairs.

There are several issues with using a non-authorised charger, including:

  1. The unit socket is designed to accept a specific plug shape to ensure a secure connection. An incorrect plug may not fit or result in a poor connection, affecting battery charge time or even causing overheating.
  2. The authorised charger is guaranteed to deliver a particular power at a specific voltage within a specified tolerance. Charging at too low a voltage will cause long charge times and reduced battery voltage over time. Using too high a voltage or too great an input power can permanently damage the battery, cause failure of the electronic components or even, in the worst case, lead to a fire risk.

I no longer need the chair, can you take them back?

We do not offer a buy-back scheme. Some of our previous customers have donated chairs to local hospices, care homes, and hospitals.

Due to their longevity, we know some of our chairs have been purchased second-hand.

Is there a User Guide for my Chair?

Yes, there are User Guides available for all our chairs. Please download (User Guides page) the guide you require.

Can your chairs be used to move someone?

Our specialist seating is designed for indoor use and can be used to transport individuals from room to room. Our chairs are not designed for outdoor use.

They are not replacing a wheelchair designed to transport a person over longer distances.

Are your chairs compatible with a Stand Assist Hoist?

Are your chairs compatible with Full Hoist Slings?

Can an Air Seat cushion be used with your chairs?

WaterCell Technology® is at the heart of our Specialist Seating range and is included as standard in the seat cushions of most of our chairs.

You can use an alternative seat cushion provided by a third party with our chairs if you would prefer. Please discuss this with your assessor, as an additional Docking Cushion Tailored Solution will be required to ensure the alternative seat cushion fits the chair correctly.

Can we collect our order from you?

For new chairs, we would recommend that these are delivered to where it is needed and set up specifically for the user by a trained Engineer or Assessor.

If your order is for parts and/or accessories, and you are local to our factory in South Devon, it is possible for you to collect your order from us. Please contact our logistics team on 0800 018 6440 and select option 1 or send an email to servicing@careflex.co.uk to discuss arranging a collection.

Buying From Us

Can I buy a chair directly from you?

Yes, you can buy a chair directly from us. We recommend having an assessment with one of our Specialist Seating Assessors to determine the appropriate chair type and specification. Our assessments are free of charge, and you are under no obligation.

Don’t hesitate to contact our assessment team on 0800 018 6440 and select option 2 or email info@careflex.co.uk to discuss arranging this assessment.

What is an assessment, and do I need one?

The key to successful specialist seating provision is a comprehensive assessment. Ideally, this will be done with a healthcare professional and a seating assessor.

The assessment process is holistic and designed to identify the following clearly –

  • The chair users’ clinical requirements for specialist seating.
  • What the chair will be used for, and for how long.
  • Whether there is appropriate access into the building and between rooms
  • Who will be supervising and monitoring the chair and user?
  • What method of transfer in and out of the chair will be used
  • How the chair will integrate with the environment, with other products and equipment.

The no-obligation free assessment ends with an agreement on the most appropriate set-up of specialist seating and accessories that will meet the needs of everyone who will be using the chair. We will send a written quotation, which can be used to order the chair.

Our blog posts ‘Your Assessment: What Can You Expect‘ and ‘Is Assessment Important?‘ contain more information on assessments’ importance in establishing the correct chair specification.
